What is rueda?
rueda is Cuban salsa danced in a circle, with a caller shouting move names in Spanish. Couples perform the same move together, then often swap partners around the circle. It's social, communal and a brilliant way to build your salsa vocabulary quickly.
Do I need to know Cuban salsa before joining a rueda class?
Not necessarily - many beginner rueda classes in Edinburgh teach the basic step and partnering alongside the calls. Some prior partner-dance experience helps but isn't required.
How many calls do I need to know to join a rueda?
Around 10 to 15 basic calls is enough to drop into most Edinburgh rueda circles. Regular weekly classes build the vocabulary naturally over a couple of months.
Can I dance rueda without a partner?
Yes - rueda is designed around swapping partners around the circle, so you'll dance with everyone over the course of the night. Solo dancers are welcome.
